At 808 Cycles in Singapore, a Brompton full service combines replacement of specified wear parts with brake and gear checks, general cleaning, and wheel inspection and lateral truing where required. This guide takes you inside our workshop to explain what the package covers, what the photographs show and when additional work needs a separate discussion.

808 Cycles has been a Brompton Authorised Dealer in Singapore since 2016, with servicing carried out by a certified Brompton mechanic. For current prices, model coverage and collection arrangements, see our Brompton servicing packages in Singapore.

What is included in a Brompton full service?

Our current full-service and recommissioning package includes:

  • Tyres and tubes: new Continental Contact Urban tyres and Continental inner tubes.
  • Rim protection: new original Brompton rim tapes.
  • Drivetrain wear parts: a new original Brompton chain and rear sprockets.
  • Brakes and gears: inspection and adjustment.
  • Cleaning: general cleaning of the frame, mudguards and wheels.
  • Wheels: inspection and precision lateral truing where required, subject to rim condition.

Package details can change. Check the current servicing inclusions and prices when booking. Parts or repairs beyond the agreed package are advised separately before additional chargeable work proceeds.

First, understand how the Brompton is used

A daily commuter and a bike that has spent several years folded in a cupboard can need different attention. Tell us when your Brompton was last serviced, how often you ride and whether anything has changed: hesitant gears, a skipping chain, a rubbing brake or a wheel that appears to wobble.

Photographs help when arranging a visit, but they do not replace an inspection. Let us know about aftermarket brake or gear modifications too. Compatibility and the work required may differ from an original-specification bicycle.

Cleaning gives access to the details

The disassembled components in the opening photograph show the access available when parts are removed during a service. Areas that are awkward to reach on an assembled bicycle can then be inspected and cleaned.

Cleaning alone cannot restore worn metal, damaged rubber or a component that is no longer serviceable. A clean-looking bicycle still needs its mechanical condition assessed.

Why inspect tyres, inner tubes and rim tapes?

Tyres meet the road, inner tubes retain air and rim tapes protect the tubes at the rim. Each needs attention. Replacing a tyre does not automatically resolve every cause of a puncture.

The workshop photographs below show two different findings: cracking across a tyre’s tread and deteriorated rim tape exposed after removing a tyre and inner tube. They illustrate why both visible and hidden components need checking; they are not a before-and-after comparison.

Cracks are visible across the tyre tread. Remaining tread depth does not, on its own, establish that a tyre is fit for use.

The chain and rear sprockets also work together to transmit your pedalling effort. Replacing the specified drivetrain wear parts is one part of assessing the bicycle, not a substitute for checking the rest of it.

How are the brakes, gears and wheels checked?

Brake and gear inspection and adjustment are included in our full-service package. Describe when a problem occurs: does a gear skip under load, or does a brake rub once per wheel revolution? Specific symptoms help us understand what to investigate.

Wheel inspection and lateral truing are carried out where required. Where rim condition permits, we use a dial indicator and aim for approximately ±0.05 mm lateral movement from the centre. This depends on the rim’s condition and is not a promise that every damaged wheel can be brought to that result.

What if inspection finds additional problems?

A service package cannot anticipate every bicycle’s history. Corrosion, damage or non-original components may require work beyond the agreed package. We will advise you before carrying out additional chargeable work.

If a modified brake or gear system cannot accept an appropriate original replacement part directly, the options need to be discussed first. Let us inspect the bicycle before you buy replacement parts.

How often should a Brompton have a full service?

At 808 Cycles, we recommend a full service approximately every two years or 10,000 kilometres, whichever comes first. This is our workshop recommendation, not a universal replacement deadline for every component. Riding conditions, storage and symptoms can justify an earlier inspection.

Low mileage does not prevent age-related deterioration. If your bicycle has been stored for a long time, read our guide to bringing an unused Brompton back into service. Do not ride a bicycle with an obvious safety-related fault just to get it to the shop.

Questions about booking a Brompton service

How much does a full service cost at 808 Cycles?

As of 5 November 2026, full servicing starts from S$330 for A Line or C Line Mk5, and S$380 for C Line Mk6, P Line or T Line. These are starting prices, not a quote for every bicycle. Check our servicing page for current prices and package terms.

Can 808 Cycles collect a Brompton that cannot be ridden?

Two-way bicycle transport can be arranged, subject to scheduling and service-area availability. Send your locality and ask about current availability and terms. Any time-limited transport offers are listed on our servicing page.

What should I send when booking?

Send your Brompton model if known, a few clear photographs, when it was last serviced and a short description of its condition. Include your collection locality if transport is needed.
